More than 40 hams wait at the 446th Airlift Wing Annex here, Dec. 17, 2015 to be taken in by various Reserve family homes. The hams were donated to the wing as part of Operation Ham Grenade, which local community leaders, organizations, and individuals donate them to Airmen for their holiday dinners. The 446th AW Care and Share program, which hosts food drives, adds the hams to food baskets that are given to Reserve families who endure financial stress during the holiday season.

Reserve physician designs award-winning, historical postage stamp
The photo of Steponas Darius and Stasys Girenas created the idea for Lt. Col. (Dr.) Arunas Banionis' postage stamp design, which earned him first place in the Lithuania Post Postage Stamps Design Contest in May. Banionis, a 446th Aerospace Medicine Squadron flight surgeon, grew up collecting stamps and had an interest in Darius and Girenas' transatlantic flight, which was the first flight across the Atlantic Ocean by Lithuanian-born pilots. Banionis was born and raised in the U.S., but is of Lithuanian decent and learned about Lithuanian culture as he grew up.

Reserve physician designs award-winning, historical postage stamp
Lt. Col. (Dr.) Arunas Banionis, a flight surgeon with the 446th Aerospace Medicine Squadron, displays a page of Lithuanian stamps, Aug. 11. Banionis created the design, which placed first in the Lithuanian Post Postage Stamps Design Contest in May. July 20 marked the 80th Anniversary of the Flight of Darius and Girenas, the first transatlantic flight flown by Lithuanian-born pilots, which was his inspiration for the design. Banionis has a Lithuanian background and grew up with admirations in stamp collecting and aviation.
