Lt. Col. (Dr.) Arunas Banionis, a flight surgeon with the 446th Aerospace Medicine Squadron, displays a page of Lithuanian stamps, Aug. 11. Banionis created the design, which placed first in the Lithuanian Post Postage Stamps Design Contest in May. July 20 marked the 80th Anniversary of the Flight of Darius and Girenas, the first transatlantic flight flown by Lithuanian-born pilots, which was his inspiration for the design. Banionis has a Lithuanian background and grew up with admirations in stamp collecting and aviation.
