Sometimes civil engineers really need heavy equipment
KIRKUK REGIONAL AIR BASE, Iraq - Maj. David Walter, 446th Civil Engineer Squadron, McChord Air Force Base, Wash., dons full body armor before leaving Kirkuk RAB for a visit to a forward operating base. Major Walter, a Reservist, is one of about 40 Reserve Airmen from McChord currently deployed to Iraq. Major Walter says "The best part of this job is getting out there with the men and women who are doing the real work of keeping the bad guys at bay, while the nation of Iraq figures out how to establish and embrace and government of the people and by the people. MCCHORD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. - Master Sgt. Dwayne Lee, 446th Civil Engineer Squadron here, points to a smoke detector he helped install in a water control substation at McChord on Oct. 4. Sergeant Lee and his team of Air Force Reserve engineers retrofitted the decades-old building in just five days with an extensive list of modern fire protection equipment during their annual tour in August. The improvements included installation of approximately 400 feet of conduit piping, 800 feet of electrical wire, 15 tamper control modules, three smoke detectors, two fire alarm pull stations with horn strobes, and a fire alarm control panel. CES Reservist first at McChord to operate vehicle
Washington state Army National Guardsman Sgt. John Taber a motor sergeant with the 204th Engineers based in Centralia, Wash., gives Senior Master Sgt. Chris Webster, 446th Civil Engineer Squadron, superintendent of the construction equipment shop and vehicle control officer for the 446th CES at McChord Air Force Base, Wash., an overview of the instruments in the cabin of the new Army general purpose cargo truck on Fort Lewis.
