Reflecting in American Samoa after the storm
A McChord C-17 Globemaster III with a 446th Airlift Wing aircrew sits on the runway at Pago Pago International Airport in American Samoa Dec. 16, 2012. The crew was enroute to Royal Australian Air Force Base Richmond, Australia, in support of a joint operation. Tropical Cyclone Evan had passed over American Samoa Dec. 12-16 causing 6,000 people to take shelter in evacuation centers and $4.1 million in damages to infrastructure. The puddle in the foreground is a result of the rains from that storm system. (U.S. Air Force Photo/Staff Sgt. Jon Polka)

McChord Reservist's hard work pays off
Airman 1st Class Glenn Bartle, 728th Airlift Squadron, holds his Basic Military Training Honor Graduate coin at the 446th Airlift Wing's Headquarters on McChord Field, Wash., Dec. 28. Bartle earned the coin by performing at such a high level during BMT at Joint Base San Antonio, Texas, that his scores placed him in the top 10 percent of the almost 800 Airmen he graduated with. He completed the training Dec. 7. "I was just a bit more focused throughout the entire process of BMT. I studied when I was supposed to study and listened when I was supposed to listen. I paid attention to what was being said as opposed to how the Training Instructors were saying it," said Bartle. He leaves for technical school back at Joint Base San Antonio in January to begin the training to become a Aircraft Loadmaster . (U.S. Air Force Photo/Staff Sgt. Rachael Garneau)
