Passing the torch: from the Greatest Generation to Generation Next

Retired Lt. Col. Edward Drummond, an original member of the Tuskegee Airmen, administers the oath of office to Lt. Col. Kimberly Scott, 728th Airlift Squadron, during her promotion ceremony October 3, 2009 at McChord Air Force Base, Wash. Colonel Drummond had a storied career with the Air Force that included a stint as operations officer for the 318th Fighter Squadron at McChord AFB in 1961-62. He now works to provide scholarships for deserving high school students as a member of the Seattle/Tacoma Sam Bruce chapter of Tuskegee Airmen. "We are so proud of her," said Colonel Drummond. "I know that Tuskegee Airmen who have passed on would be proud of her as well, looking down from that airfield in the sky and smiling at what has transgressed to make it possible for young folks like Kimberly to be successful in the military."
