JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash.- Maj. Steven Lee, right, 446th Airlift Wing executive, stands with Brig. Gen. Balan Ayyar, Air Force Recruiting Service commander, Randolph Air Force Base, Texas, during Major Lee’s promotion ceremony at the 446th AW headquarters auditorium here, Oct 1. Major Lee was promoted to lieutenant colonel. Colonel Lee and General Ayyar graduated from the Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo. in 1987. They were in undergraduate pilot training together at Columbus Air Force Base, Miss., where they became friends. They worked together as T-37 Tweet instructor pilots at Columbus AFB as their first duty assignments. In 1994, General Ayyar commanded the 4th Airlift Squadron at then, McChord Air Force Base, Wash., while Colonel Lee flew the C-141 Starlifter as a Reservist with the 313th Airlift Squadron, also at McChord AFB.
