The 446th Airlift Wing Airman and Family Readiness Center staff continues to seek food donations to prepare holiday dinner baskets for families in need.

In addition, the unit that collects the most food per capita now through Nov. 21 will earn recognition on a Thanksgiving Food Drive trophy.

“We’re looking for food that can be stored without refrigeration,” said Tech. Sgt. Troy Gordon, Airman and Family Readiness Center NCO. “It’s also nice when people donate food that they like to eat.”

Baskets will be ready for pick-up throughout the week of Nov. 21. The following is a list of commonly donated items:

• Canned meats
• Peanut butter and jelly
• Canned soup, stew and chili
• Cereal
• Canned vegetables
• Fruit canned
• Beans
• Macaroni and cheese
• Boxed meals
• Pasta sauce
• Coffee and tea
• Instant formula
• Items for hygiene

Anyone is welcome to refer a family to receive a food basket, and nomination forms are available at the Airman and Family Readiness Center, Bldg. 1207. Nominations should include information about the recipient, to include: unit, duty phone number, number of adults and/or children, ages of children, and any known food allergies. Listing the member’s first sergeant is also helpful to ensure nominees receive their baskets, Gordon said.
