In the Army she had occasion to treat Soldiers injured after a safety mishap. In the Air Force Reserve, she gets to serve as a safety net by encouraging and educating Airmen about safety in an effort to avoid the need for a medic.

Meet Master Sgt. Regina Rector, the new ground safety manager for the 446th Airlift Wing. Rector joined the wing staff in mid-February as an air reserve technician in the wing safety office.

Looking for new opportunities, Rector decided to try for the position at McChord when it was advertised and soon found herself leaving Tinker Air Force Base, Okla., for the Pacific Northwest.

Originally from southwestern Virginia, this is Rector's first time on the West Coast.
Rector served in the Army for about four years as a medic, but has always been interested in the safety career.

"I was very interested in safety when I was in the Army," she said. "Safety in the Army is an additional duty; there are no enlisted or officer slots dedicated to it, it's all civilians."

Rector says she enjoys the preventive nature of the job. As ground safety manager, she also is responsible for the weapons safety program in the wing.
