JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash -- U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Brian Dooley and Senior Airman Phu Hoang with the 446th Airlift Wing won multiple awards for their exemplary work throughout the year in their respective fields.
After sweeping wing quarterly awards and annual awards, Dooley and Hoang’s excellence culminated in earning the 4th Air Force Noncommissioned Officer of the Year and Airman of the Year, respectively.
“Tech. Sgt. Dooley and Senior Airman Hoang exemplify the excellence and dedication we strive for at the 446th Airlift Wing,” said Chief Master Sgt. James Bolling, 446th Airlift Wing Command Chief. "Their selection as the 4th Air Force [NCO] and Airman of the Year is a testament to their tireless commitment, leadership, and service to our mission.”
As an aviation resource manager, Dooley’s responsibilities include planning, organizing and directing aircrew resource activities while coordinating with Air Force Reserve Command counterparts. Dooley is serving in a long-range planning role with the 446th Operations Support Squadron, which is typically a role held by pilots and loadmasters and sets him apart as a skilled individual.
“I know that when I give Dooley a task, he will finish it better than I anticipated,” said Lt. Col. Jack Vetas, 446th OSS Director of Operations. “He sees the bigger picture. He is an amazing person in and out of the military which bleeds over into his work.”
Hoang is a 446th Sustainment Services Flight Journeyman. His job is to focus on all aspects of the sustainment career field from, fitness, to food, community outreach and mortuary affairs. Hoang is a consummate professional and a dedicated volunteer in his local community, volunteering his time and skills to multiple organizations for over 200 hours.
“Hoang is not just a service member; He is also a member of the community, both in and out of uniform,” said Tech. Sgt. Yamel Mayen, 446th Force Support Squadron sustainment services section chief. “His responsibilities highlight the multifaceted nature of the Citizen Airman ideal. Hoang embodies the principle of serving our country while remaining deeply connected to his community.”
“I couldn’t be prouder of their accomplishments,” said Bolling. “I know they will represent us with distinction as they compete at the Air Force level.”
With both Airmen winning the 4th Air Force ‘of the Year’ awards in their respective categories, they will now compete for the same awards at the Major Command-level, Air Force Reserve Command.
