3 advance to AFRC for Sijan Published July 12, 2007 By Senior Airman Desiree Kiliz MCCHORD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. -- Three McChord Reservists will represent the 4th Air Force for the 2007 Lance P. Sijan USAF Leadership Award at the Air Force Reserve Command level. Representing 4th AF are: senior officer category, Lt. Col. Colin Carr, 446th Operations Group; junior officer category, Capt. Rhonda Maloney, 446th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron; junior enlisted category, Tech. Sgt. Jack Todd, 446th Maintenance Squadron. The Sijan award was first awarded in 1981 and is given to officers and enlisted Airmen who demonstrate the highest qualities of leadership in their duty performance and their own lives. Nominees are selected based on their community involvement, leadership image, professional leadership and scope of responsibility. Lance P. Sijan was the first U.S. Air Force Academy graduate to receive the Medal of Honor after his plane was shot down Nov. 9, 1967 flying over Vietnam. He was captured, escaped and recaptured after 45 days and later died while in a Vietnamese prisoner-of-war camp.
