The 2009 Washington State Special Olympics will be held at McChord Air Force Base and FortĀ  Lewis, Wash., May 29-31. To make this event successful, more volunteers are need.

The volunteer opportunities start May 28 and include assisting with the Opening Ceremony, the Victory Dance and Happening events, parking, bicycle races, family and volunteer barbecues, and clean up.

This is probably one of the most rewarding volunteer opportunities you will get a chance to participate in all year, according to Master Sgt. Jerry Walker, volunteer coordinator for McChord AFB.

If you are interested in volunteering, contact Master Sgt. Jerry Walker at 982- 7701 or through e-mail at jerry.walker-02@mcchord.af.mil.

Air reserve technicians, Reservists already on orders, and civilian employees with the 446th Airlift Wing who volunteer May 28-29 during normal duty hours will be deemed as at an alternate work site with the permission of their supervisors. Traditional Reservists can volunteer using their own time, and cannot be brought in on orders to support the event. Please notify the 446th AW Public Affairs office if you are volunteering and what you are volunteering for so we can document your contributions.
