Reservists need to adhere to guidelines when traveling on UTA shuttle Published Aug. 6, 2009 By Senior Airman Patrick Cabellon 446th Airlift Wing Public Affairs MCCHORD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. -- Reservists with the 446th Airlift Wing using the UTA shuttle to McChord may have noticed passenger service procedures have become stricter. The adoption of more aggressive Transportation Security Administration guidelines recently is the root cause of stricter standards when processing travelers on Air Mobility Command flights. "The passenger service personnel work very hard to accommodate our nine to five work schedules (with civilian jobs) in order to get us properly processed to ride on the shuttle," said Lt. Col. Benjamin Morley, director of 446th Operations Support Flight. "Our cooperation will assist everyone in the process." Reservists are space available passengers, not duty passengers. Reservists cannot bump another Space-A passenger in order to ride the shuttle. Seats are open to all Space-A passengers on a "first come first serve" basis. Reservists must be sure to have a current and accurate DD Form 1853 with them, signed by their commander or first sergeant, in order to be processed for a Space-A flight. Blades or weapons of any kind are prohibited from being in carry-on baggage. "If a commercial airport security would not allow you to carry it on, please don't do so here," said Colonel Morley. Arriving at the passenger terminal to get on a shuttle while wearing high heels, sandals or other types of open toe footwear is not recommended. Also, passengers embarking at Hill Air Force Base, Utah, are urged to use a restroom before checking in for the flight. There is no restroom on site. If a Reservist requires the immediate use of a restroom, passenger service personnel must stop processing passengers to escort you out of the area to the restroom. Afterwards, you have to be re-processed through security. For more information on the UTA shuttle, Reserve Airmen may call (253) 982-2938.
