Yellow Ribbon event set for July in Reno Published May 27, 2010 By Sandra Pishner 446th Airlift Wing Public Affairs JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. -- The next free Yellow Ribbon event is July 16-18 in Reno, Nev. Although the dates may seem far away, the slots are filled on a first come, first serve basis. The event will be hosted by Travis Air Force Base, Calif., however Reservists from McChord Field are invited to attend. The Secretary of Defense initiated the Yellow Ribbon Reintegration Program which provides information, services, referral, and proactive outreach programs to servicemembers and their families through all phases of the deployment cycle. The goal of the Yellow Ribbon Reintegration Program is to prepare Airmen and families for mobilization, sustain families during mobilization, and reintegrate Airmen with their families, communities, and employers upon redeployment "It's a great time to come out and speak face-to-face with subject matter experts on all your military benefits," said Master Sgt. Steven Thomas, 446th Mission Support Squadron Airmen & Family Readiness Center. "You qualify if you have been activated to participate in or deployed in support of an operational mission for 90 days or more. So whether you're currently ctivated, going to be activated or have previously been activated (within the last year) don't miss out on this great opportunity." Reservists wishing to attend may bring their spouses or children, and single Airmen my bring parents of siblings. Those attending will be placed on Yellow Ribbon orders so that hotel cost, travel and meals will be reimbursed at the government rate. However, according to Sergeant Thomas, Reservists may not use their government travel card to cover expenses of family members. Free licensed professional childcare is available with structured fun activities for kids ages 0 to17. Contact the 446th AW Airmen & Family Readiness Center at 253-982-5330 for more information.
