Summer is a great time to be outdoors, and when you're in uniform, you want to ensure you present a professional military image. While you're out enjoying the sun, remember the following items:

National Anthem at Outdoor Events:
When the flag is displayed, all present except those in formation, should stand at attention facing the flag with their right hand over their heart. Members of the Armed Forces and veterans who are present, but not in uniform, may render the military salute. All others should remove their hat with their right hand and hold the headdress at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart. Individuals in uniform should give the military salute at the first note of the National Anthem and maintain that position until the last note. When the flag is not displayed, all present should face toward the music and act in the same manner they would if the flag were displayed.

Authorized Sunglasses when in Uniform:
Sunglass frames may be silver or gold wire, or black or brown material, with conservative ornamentation and logo the same color as the frame or lenses. Conservative wrap-around glasses may be worn, but faddish styles and mirrored lenses are not allowed. No sunglasses may be worn while in formation, to include photosensitive lenses, and glasses may never be worn around the neck, on top/back of head, or exposed hanging on the uniform.

Cell Phone Use when in Uniform:
Airmen in uniform may now "walk and talk" while using personal cell phones, and your cell phone may be worn on either the left or right side of your uniform; however, it must be a conservative color. Military customs and courtesies are required and take precedence - talking on a phone is no excuse for not saluting. Hopefully you are complying with the new law which makes driving while texting or talking on the phone without an earpiece, a primary offense. Remember though, it is still prohibited to wear an ear piece while in uniform at all times (unless you're driving).
