After a little over three and a half years as commander of the 446th Mission Support Group, Col. Craig Petersen will relinquish command of the group to Col. Gerald Vowell.

The change of command for the 446th Airlift Wing's largest group will be Sept. 12 at Bldg. 1422 on JBLM McChord Field at 2 p.m.

Colonel Petersen is moving on to Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, where he will be the 433rd Mission Support Group commander.

Colonel Vowell arrives at JBLM McChord Field from MacDill Air Force Base, Fla., where he was commander of the 927th Mission Support Group.

Colonel Vowell, with more than 36 years of service in the active and Reserve Air Force, is no stranger to the Pacific Northwest.  He was first assigned to McChord Air Force Base in 1975 as an enlisted administrative specialist with the 446th Airlift Wing.  He returned to the 446th AW in 1994 as the chief, plans and programs.
