The 446th Civil Engineer Squadron Explosive Ordnance Disposal Flight boasts an undersized group of overachievers. Such is the case with Master Sgt. Glen Tuttle. The logistics NCO in charge of the flight is a soft-spoken, unassuming Reservist who seems to shy away from recognition.

"I'm pretty low key," said Sergeant Tuttle.

But staying out of the spotlight might now be a little difficult for the native of Nashua, N.H. That's because he was recently named the Air Mobility Command Outstanding Civil Engineer Air Reserve Component NCO manager of the year.

"I'm happy for the recognition this brings to our flight and the wing," said Sergeant Tuttle, who works in the same role as a civilian for the 627th Air Base Group EOD Flight here at McChord Field. "I'm just the figurehead who happened to get the award."

Sergeant Tuttle's colleagues, however, are quick to recognize his selfless devotion to career and fellow Airmen. They are not as low key when it comes to describing what he brings to a unit that deploys often, and often under stressful conditions.

"Glen has showed incredible leadership over the last several years," said Senior Master Sgt. Jeff Sursely, 446th EOD superintendent.

Sergeant Sursely points to the fact that Sergeant Tuttle worked as a team leader in Afghanistan, and as a flight chief for the 627th ABG EOD.

"He steps up to the plate and successfully executes the mission every time," said Sergeant Sursely.

Sergeant Tuttle resides in Lakewood, Wash. with his wife and two kids. He's an avid bicyclist and competed in a half-ironman triathlon this past summer. "I was very humbled that day," he joked. When not biking or winning awards, Sergeant Tuttle stays busy restoring his black cherry-colored 1965 Pontiac GTO.

In December, Sergeant Tuttle will compete for the CE Air Reserve Component NCO Manager of the Year at the Air Force level.
