The Air Force Network migration project has migrated its way to McChord Field, and Reservists here should soon reap the benefits.

Beginning Jan. 17, computer experts with the 446th Airlift Wing will transfer all network computer accounts from the current "stand-alone" major command network (Air Mobility Command) to a centrally-managed database within the AFNet.

What this will mean for Reservists, among other benefits, is a streamlined, standardized operating system with improved security.

"This really benefits everyone," said Master Sgt. Diana Feeley, 446th AW chief of network operations. "This integration will give you, the user, access to one universal email address and all network resources, whether you're sitting at home or deployed worldwide."

Sergeant Feeley recently took the opportunity to visit other AMC tenant bases, mid-migration, as part of her annual tour. The experience allowed her to see what challenges other client support administrators faced with respect to migrating their personnel to the AFNet. Over the last two years, she has also been working closely with her active-duty and Air National Guard counterparts here to ensure a smooth transition.

"I'm very proud of us because we've had a trifecta of professionals working to ensure everyone has as painless a transition as possible," she said.

As with any major network change, Sergeant Feeley said you should backup your data and manage your email account, "so you avoid the nasty over size limit messages."

The good news is that most Reservists will see their e-mail folder size limit double after the migration, from 50 to 100 megabytes.

If you have any issues during the migration, you are encouraged to contact your unit Client Support Technician.
