Up to 40 civilian employers will be invited to participate in the semi-annual Employer Orientation Day Oct. 1.

The 446th Airlift Wing Employer Orientation is designed to provide civilian employers a real sense of what their employees do as Reservists when they are called away on orders or for annual training.

Invited employers start the day early reporting to McChord Field where they are met by the 446th Airlift Wing Public Affairs staff. Employers are taken to the mobility processing center on base and receive briefings on their "mission." The employers then "process" for deployment by visiting various stations in the deployment center.

Once processed, the "Reservists" for a day take to the skies in a C-17 for an airdrop mission, followed by a combat offload. Sponsoring Reservists join their employers for this part of the day.

Civilian employers of Reservists are required to let their employee go when duty calls. Often times all they know is that they're valued employee is missing. Employer Orientation Day is an opportunity for Reservists to enhance their employer/employee relationship regarding their Reserve duty.

Reservists who are interested in nominating their employer for this event should download the application here and submit it to the 446th Airlift Wing Public Affairs office (preferably electronically) by Sept. 12.

If you have questions about the event, call the public affairs office at 982-3330.
