Building Goodwill in Belize Published June 1, 2017 By 446 Airlift Wing Public Affairs 446 Airlift Wing Public Affairs JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. -- Beyond the Horizon is a joint exercise with the Belize Defence Force and civic agencies where regular Army, Army Reserves, National Guard and Air Force Reserve personnel deploy to Central America for two-week rotations. This brings vital services and resources to rural communities. The exercise is conducted annually as part of U.S. Army South and U.S. Southern Command's humanitarian and civic assistance program.Army South has planned and conducted Beyond the Horizon since 2008 in the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador. A total of nearly 1,800 U.S. service personnel construct schools and clinics and provide medical, dental and veterinarian support. This year the 446th AW worked on incinerator and emergency room projects in Belize.
