JOINT BASE LEWIS-McCHORD, Wash. -- Third Quarter quarterly award winners were recently announced by 446th ‘Rainier’ Wing leadership.
“My sincere congratulations to these outstanding performers,” said Col. Scott L. McLaughlin, 446th AW commander. “Your contributions to making the Rainier Wing and your local community a better place to serve and live are truly incredible and very much deserving of this recognition.”
Winners were chosen in the Airman, noncommissioned officer, senior noncommissioned officer, company grade officer, field grade officer and civilian categories.
Airman of the Quarter – Senior Airman Katherine E. Black, 446th Operations Support Squadron operations intelligence
Black is the go-to Citizen Airman for the 446th AW awards banquet, OSS morale committee, POW/MIA organizations, and Green Dot influencer training. She serves her local community by volunteering over 70 hours for South Puget Sound Community College fundraiser, Northwest Harvest and Airman’s pantry.
She’s also pursuing her in pursuit of a bachelor's degree in international relations and served as Intel Current Operations chief for over a year.
NCO of the Quarter – Staff Sgt. Tracy A. Bettendorf, 446th Civil Engineer Squadron Emergency Management journeyman.
Bettendorf backfilled the wing EM Air Reserve Technician vacancy, corrected a wing Management Internal Control Toolset delinquency; developed a training tracker for the Unit Effectiveness Inspection preparation, ensuring EM program accuracy. As the wing EM instructor, she trained 292 Citizen Airmen in 53 classes on chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear defense awareness. Supporting deployed military members, she helped prepare over 350 care packages and packed 7,000 items for Treats 2 Troops.
Senior NCO of the Quarter – Master Sgt. Erin C. Bush, 446th Aeromedical Staging Squadron Health Services management
Bush coordinated the Joint Base Lewis-McChord POW/MIA 24 hour run, which included 27 teams, 300 people and raised $3,000. She also earned the Presidential Gold Volunteer Service Award that was personally presented by Deborah Lee James, Secretary of the Air Force, for volunteering more than 2,000 hours. She managed 145 Citizen Airmen, tracking health requirements and ensuring the unit was incompliance for the inspection. A fitness expert and unit fitness monitor and personal trainer, she ensured her unit was in 98 percent compliance. As the unit’s Sexual Assault Prevention and Response (SAPR) Program facilitator, she was extremely effective in training Rainier Wing members.
CGO of the Quarter – Capt. Jeremy L. Guest, 446th CES engineer
Guest led 33 Citizen Airmen to Gallup, N.M. in support of Operation Footprint, constructing more than 250 houses for the Navajo nation. Through the enterprise value stream analysis process, he identified six programs to improve squadron efficiencies. He worked to raise awareness of veteran suicide by participating in #OneIsTooMany campaign. Additionally, he volunteered to support elderly vets spending time helping with chores and sharing stories.
FGO of the Quarter – Maj. Scott C. Jones, 728th Airlift Squadron chief of training and instructor pilot.
Despite budget constraints, Jones managed a $10 million squadron training program budget that ensured flying standards, proficiency and readiness. He revamped the re-qualification plan for three flying squadrons, increasing efficiency and saving funds and manpower resources. As the lead pilot for the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve ‘Boss Lift’, he was vital in planning the flight and briefing over 25 Citizen Airmen employers. His community service includes mentoring at Aviation High School of King County- and building homes with Habitat for Humanity and Seattle Build International Build.
Civilian of the Quarter, Category 1 – Joan M. Stallworth, 728th AS, secretary
Stallworth supports the squadron by carrying out 13 diverse, SNCO level additional duties. She is the squadron’s authority on Air Force Instruction, Major Command and Numbered Air Force policy. An MICT expert, she ensures squadron core responsibilities and critical areas on track. Through her expertise, she ensured the officer and enlisted evaluation process was brought from 80 percent compliance to 100 percent in less than three months.
Civilian of the Quarter, Category 2 – Staff Sgt. Timothy Hoyle, 446th Force Support Squadron network administrator
As the network administrator, Hoyle tracked 28 inventories valued over $1.74 million and was awarded Air Force Space Command’s "Best IT Inventory" 9 times. He assisted the 62nd Airlift Wing Active Duty with their Command Cyber Readiness Inspection and re-imaged over 100 Air Force Network systems, decreasing network risks by 55 percent in under two weeks’ time. In a Personal Wireless Communication System audit, he analyzed usage, ultimately saving the wing $14,000 annually. He also was a team leader in setting up over 15 printers, configuring networks and security settings, saving 80 man-hours for the 62nd AW.
Civilian of the Quarter, Category 3 – Senior Master Sgt. Timothy Ebora, 446 Maintenance Squadron Structural Maintenance Section NCOIC
Ebora planned a temporary duty trip for 21 members from 9 different Air Force Specialty Codes to support Pacific Air Force operations and reducing their Aerospace Ground Equipment backlog. In support of Air Force Reserve Command’s Special Operations Command, he organized and deployed Structural Maintenance and Composites to support C-130 and HH-60 missions. Sharing information with Travis Air Force Base Structural Maintenance and Composites team, he was able to standardize C-17 repair techniques and capabilities which increased C-17 aircraft availability.
All of the quarterly winners for 2016 will be honored at the annual awards banquet in April 2017 and each will receive one complimentary dinner.
