As part of 7th Annual Operation Ham Grenade, 150 hams were delivered to 446th Airlift ‘Rainier’ Wing’s Airman and Family Readiness Center Dec. 12.

The Pierce Military Business Alliance (PMBA) along with many local companies and community members helped provide Citizen Airmen with not only the centerpiece roast to airmen families but a box of food as well.

Civilian and military volunteers helped transport the hams from the back of white box trucks to refrigerators, and ultimately ending up in an oven in time for holiday dinners.

Boxes of durable food items lined the hallway of the Airman and Family Readiness Center along with bags of bread and potatoes. Members of the wing can come by and pick up any items they might need from the readiness center.

“It’s all about helping our members and families” said Carl Supplee, Director of the Airman and family Readiness Center. “A lot of families are in need, and struggle during the holidays. This is such a great support from the local community.”

Operation Ham Grenade is in its seventh year and has steadily grown with support from Joint Base Lewis-McChord civilian neighbors. More than 1,500 hams were delivered to JBLM, Camp Murray, and Army recruiters.
