Montenegro in Afghanistan, Interview+broll package
Resolute Support Headquarters
July 30, 2017 | 2:34
Montenegro became NATO's newest member this summer, but the Armed Forces of Montenegro have actively supported the NATO-led operation in Afghanistan since 2010.
1st Lieutenant Tomic Mirko, from Montenegro Chief of the Surveillance Control Cell at Camp Marmal in Mazar-e-Sharif and Senior National Representative of Montenegro in Afghanistan, explains why he finds it meaningful to be able to contribute to peace in Afghanistan, in light of his own country's long history of fighting for freedom.
Soundbite (English) Tomic Mirko:
“We are here since beginning of March, there is 18 of us and we are very proud that our standards and our values are recognized to be equal as the standards of the NATO countries.
This country over here, Afghanistan, is very long period in war, and people used to live in war. So our contribution over here, not only Montenegrin but all the RS mission and all the countries which are involved in the RS mission, is to help the afghans to bring peace in their own country. And for me as a Montenegrin that is very meaningful. Because, by the history you can learn a lot of stuff which you can use even today. And we are very proud of our history. Very long period back in history we were fighting for our freedom and now we are in the position to help the other guys to gain their own freedom. It´s very meaningful for us.“
