The Military District of Washington hosts a ribbon-cutting ceremony to official open the interim stables for the 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) Caisson Detachment on Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall (JBM-HH), Dec. 10, 2025. In an effort to support the continued modernization of the caisson program and maintain support to Arlington National Cemetery, The Old Guard, in coordination with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, established a semi-permanent stabling solution on JBM-HH to expedite the renovations of the historic barns. Designed with input from equine experts, the interim stables provide a state-of-the-art facility for their horses while supporting services in Arlington National Cemetery. Additionally, the interim stables increase capacity to house up to 26 horses, or two full squads. This increased capacity allows the regiment to support up to four services per day, and up to 20 per week at Arlington National Cemetery.

"The completion of the interim stables represents a critical milestone for the caisson program. It significantly enhances our operational capabilities, improving mission readiness and training efficiency. This achievement reinforces our unwavering commitment to excellence, ensuring the Caisson Detachment continues to honor our fallen while preserving this sacred tradition for generations to come."
– Brig. Gen. Antoinette R. Gant, Commanding General, Joint Task Force-National Capital Region and the U.S. Army Military District of Washington
