Career workshop set for May 5-6

MCCHORD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. --  Reserve enlisted and junior officers are invited to the 446th Airlift Wing career workshop May 5-6 in Hangar 9 here.
Registration forms are available on the 446th AW SharePoint page. Registration ends April 20.
Dress code for the workshop is the uniform of the day. The workshop gives Reservists an opportunity to learn about management and organization, and meet other Reservists in a fun environment.
This will be the fifth annual career workshop hosted by the 446th AW. The theme for this year's workshop is: "Developing Today's Wingman." Topics for the workshop include leadership, stress management, financial planning and team building.
The workshop is used to inform and train Airmen with subjects that cannot be covered over a drill weekend. The workshop is an opportunity for Reservists to better themselves as an Airman as well as civilian employees. Topics covered during the workshop reflect the theme.
"The effect that we want the workshop to have overall is to energize people. To learn, but have fun at the same time," said Chief Master Sgt. Gloria Bennett, 446th AW command chief.
Master Sgt. Marjorie Evans, 446th Mission Support Squadron, attended the career workshop last year.
"I found it helpful," said Sergeant Evans. "The financial topic was the most helpful; they talked about budgets and ways to save money. The colors exercise was pretty interesting."
The colors exercise is a personality test that shows if you are outgoing or not and how you send and receive information to others socially.
"You find out more about the military rather than coming in on a UTA and doing your job and leaving," said Sergeant Evans.
Some topics are presented in a way that aligns with the attendees skill level.
"Some topics, such as the writing skills topic, will be broken up into groups from beginning-level writing up to advanced," said Chief Bennett. "The beginning course will cover how to make bullet points; the more advanced level writing group will learn to write up letters of evaluation and to write a more effective package."
Other presentations are not broken into smaller groups based on skill level. Airmen can gather information from those topics no matter what sort of knowledge base an Airman has, said Chief Bennett.
The guest speakers include: Col. Keith Kries, 4thAir Force vice commander; Chief Master Sgt. Troy McIntosh, Air Force Reserve Command command chief and Chief Master Sgt. Patricia Thornton, 4th AF command chief.
Guest speakers for the workshop will be on a senior leaders' panel, said Chief Bennett. They will each have an opportunity to speak on whatever topic they see fit.
Airmen can also attend an ice breaker social May 4, at 6 p.m. dress is casual. The social is a good way to get relaxed do some socializing prior to the workshop, said Chief Bennett.
Refreshments will be provided at no cost to Airmen.
"We like to keep our folks hydrated and fed," said Chief Bennett.
Unit career assistance advisers will distribute and collect registration forms from the Reservists' units. Those who will be flying in need to indicate where they are from on the registration form. Airmen taking the shuttle flight need to register early in order to justify the flight.
"There will be lots of interaction and people will be up and out of their seats," said Chief Bennett. "This time it won't be eight hours of power point presentations."
